Tobacco Abuse

The main culprit of tobacco abuse is nicotine, which interacts with the brain to increase dopamine levels and give a feeling of “satisfaction” to the user. Nicotine interaction also stimulates the adrenal gland to release adrenaline which helps in breathing, heart rate and blood circulation. It all starts with a casual smoke or two of a cigarette, cigar or water pipe and the user can get hooked to the pleasure of a nicotine “high.” Even though most users understand the harmful effects of smoking tobacco, as many as 70% continue to smoke to continue experiencing the feelings of that short-lived nicotine high. When smoking cigarettes or tobacco, nicotine is only responsible for the addiction part. The real damage is caused by a variety of other toxic chemicals such as carbon monoxide, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide, and ammonia.
