Dimitri is a slang term used for the hallucinogenic drug, Dimethyltryptamine or simply DMT. It is derived from plants in the Amazon by boiling them into a brew or converting them to powdered form. DMT is also being manufactured synthetically in some places where it is found in the form of yellow crystals or powder. The use of Dimitri results in distorted views and sudden feelings of elation or joyfulness. Many individuals have reported having been transported to an alternate reality upon taking the drug, where there is no feeling of sadness, anxiety or depression. DMT takes over instantly when smoked, and the ‘high’ lasts for five to twenty minutes. In some cases, the drug is snorted or ingested in liquid form, in which case the effects can last up to a few hours. The effects of Dimitri can vary from person to person. Some individuals can stay calm and maintain self-control, while others simply lose all feeling of ‘life’ or consciousness. Some users claim to have overcome their fears after using the drug, whereas others have described the experience as ‘being inside hell’. Some of the more common complications of using DMT include loss of body movements, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, dilated pupils, increased heart rate, doing something dangerous involuntarily, flashbacks of your life and problems adjusting to the real world after the effects of the drug ease out. Dmitri can affect your life forever. In many cases, people have simply failed to recover from their ‘flashbacks’ and it becomes almost impossible for them to return to normal day-to-day activities. In particular, individuals with a pre-existing mental health issue can suffer severe consequences of DMT.
DMT was first synthesized in 1931 by Canadian chemist Richard Helmuth. It was in 1955 when DMT was identified in the roots of a plant named Mimosa tenuiflora by Goncalves de Lima. Since then, DMT has been found in more than 50 plant species and in at least four animal species. DMT is one the main ingredients of the popular South American psychedelic named Ayahuasca. As a drug, it has the same effects as LSD.
